Super Cup Final: Cippenham RBL 9 v 3 Windsor Ex Wanderers

Thursday 11th October

With the Super Cup being moved to the beginning of the season, it felt more like a "Charity Shield" match. Reigning Winter League Champions Cippenham RBL were playing against the Winter Cup Winners Windsor Ex Wanderers.

Unfortunately Windsor could only field 5 players and so found themselves 2-0 down before the match had begun, and they never really got a chance to close that gap. The match started with John Townsend break & dishing Alan King in clinical style and finished with Ben Kiely tech dishing Stu (Shaggy) Harness.

A brief mid first half fightback by Windsor which saw Gary "GARY" Hoad break & dish Videsh was stopped by Lucky "give me 2 shots and I'm deadly" Birdy who won the last game in the first half and then won the first game of the second half.

The rest of the match was quite straight forward - Cippenham got their noses in front on pretty much every frame and proceeded to take out the games with some nice finishing

So onto the league which starts next Thursday and what looks like an interesting season. Reigning champs Cippenham have added the talents of Bradley Robinson to their ranks and must start the season as favourites to win the title 3 years running, however tough challenges are expected from in particular Rob's Windsor side and John Young's NMCC who have now moved to Racks and acquired the potting talents of guv'nor Dylan Leary.

Not far behind the top three and a team capable of delivering on their day will be the Blues Bar who could easily throw a spanner in the works and stake a claim themselves.

Here's to a good season and good luck to all teams in all the divisions.

Presentation night is this Saturday at Cippenham British Legion. Kicking off the evening @ 7pm is the singles final between John "JT" Townsend & Scotty "Dogs" Yardley in a race to 5. Followed by an excellent band and the legendary food of Lee "Greenward" Greenwood. Squeezed in between all of this will be the presentation of the medals from the 2011/2012 season.

So even if you do not have any trophies to pick up, get yourselves down to what is usually a good night out and help support your local league.

Tickets are £5 each and you can pay upon entry on the evening itself.

CHAMPION of CHAMPIONS - SUMMER 2012 6 years 50 weeks ago

CofC final Write-up (Ben Kiely):

Cippenham RBL v Irish Hasbeens

The summer season was to be decided between the current Winter League Champions Cippenham RBL, and the Irish Hasbeens - a side that only enters the summer season due to it being an amalgamation of players from a few different Winter league teams.

Both teams were missing key players (editor "that's if you can call Keith Walls a key player?!) but both line ups were still strong and a good game was to follow. Neither team could shake the other off and traded frames with each other all the way through the game. Cippenham had a chance to nick the game at 5-4 up, but Lee Greenward(!), a Cippenham player in the Winter managed to defeat Danny and take the final to a 1 frame decider.

Cippenham nominated Videsh & the Irish Club put Brad forward - two of the finest cuesmen in the county. Both players capable of taking finishes out in the blink of an eye and the final was really on the edge, whoever got the first chance would be favourite to go on and secure the title for their team. Videsh was that man, and took the game out - some would say he got a bit lucky, others would say it's "knuckle knowledge".

A great game to finish off a good summer season - congratulations to Cippenham on adding the Summer Title to the Winter Title and winning their 5th Summer League in the last 9 seasons. Also well done to the Irish on getting to the final and being part of a good match.

Congratulations to Cippenham RBL and commiserations to the Irish Hasbeens from all the committee.

Dylan Leary Wins the Singles Knock Out 7 years 9 weeks ago

FINAL:

Dylan Leary 5-3 Jon Ford

Halloween was the setting for the Final of the KO Cup competition. It was anything but a nightmare though. It was a fine match between the two main protagonists in the top division - Dylan Leary and Jon Ford. Neither had an easy path to the final but both played with aplomb. In a match that saw dry break after dry break, the first six frames went against the breaker. At 3-3 Dylan bucked the trend to take a 4-3 lead. Unfortunately for Jon, the next frme saw the pattern return and Dylan took out a clearance to take the final 5-3.

Semi Finals

John Ford 5-2 Ann Middleton

Dylan Leary 5-2 John Barnett

Quarter Finals

Jon Ford 5-3 Ben Kiely

Ann Middleton 5-3 Ingrid Kociscakova

Dylan Leary 5-2 Craig Wilson

John Barnett 5-2 Claire Dormer
